ACOFUN is a national association of forest users which advocates for collaborative forestry users groups’ rights at local, regional and national level. ACOFUN’s main focus is on to manage block forest in a sustainable way to fulfill the needs of entire users i.e. close, mid and distant. Its membership has been extended mainly in the terai districts covering numerous people from rural-based farmers i.e. men, women, old and young. In its initial stage of extension, it has extended its networking in 7 terai and siwalik districts. Since its establishment in 2007, ACOFUN has been committed and practical in representing the voice of excluded users for reserving their rights on forest resources. It has been involved in several debates about policy formulations to realize better futures of forest.

ACOFUN is a highly social inclusive forest networking having autonomous, non-partisan, non-for-profit and multi-stakeholder organization.  It has an identity as a Nepal’s most democratic civil society organization which addressed first to excluded distant users for their own right on forest resources.

Initially, there are 3 approved schemes of CFM in Parsa, Bara and Rautahat. These 3 approved schemes have been covered 77600 households managing 6670 ha forest areas. 15 schemes are in the process of approval from Nepal government. Those 15 schemes will cover 61594 ha forest area to include approximately 300000 households. Realizing this scenario of development, it predicts that more than 85 lakhs of population from terai and siwaliks will be directly involved in block forest management and sustainable utilization through ACOFUN.
